About EERA

The Eastern Educational Research Association is an organization for educational professionals interested in conducting and disseminating research that improves education for all in both formal and non-formal settings. EERA was created in 1977 and for over 40 years has been one of this country’s successful educational research organizations. EERA is affiliated with the American Educational Research Association.

EERA members meet at an annual conference in February or early March. Members’ research is disseminated through 16 divisions and 22 Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The organization is administered through a Board of Directors elected by the membership. The organization awards an Outstanding Paper Award during the annual Conference along with several other awards, including Emerging Scholar and Service to the Association. EERA also sponsors the publication of the Journal of Research in Education.

Message from the President

Dear EERA members,

I hope this message finds you and yours in the best of health and spirit!

Time flies; we are already half way through the year of 2021, and yet our annual conference in February felt like just a few weeks ago. It was our very first virtual conference, and without you we would not have had such a success. I, on behalf the EERA leadership, want to thank you again for your participation and continuing support to the organization. Also, special thanks go to our immediate past president, Dr. George Watson, for his decisiveness and resourcefulness, leading us through many uncharted paths under the particularly challenging time of a global pandemic.

As we look forward, I am thrilled with the 2022 conference to be held in-person at Clearwater, Florida, February 3-4. The conference call and the specifics are coming soon on our organizational website (https://www.eeraorganization.org/). In addition to the natural beauty offered by Clearwater, you will find yourself surrounded by many social and networking opportunities, whether you are a faculty, researcher, practitioner, or student. We are bringing back the variety of presentation formats that has been a tradition enjoyed by you, such as Birds of a Feather and Poster sessions. We are also exploring a few new venues such as Mind-and-Body hourly retreats and pre-conference student mentoring sessions. We love to have you join us at Clearwater!

Also, new initiatives are underway as we want to engage with you more and hear directly from you more so that we can better serve you. The Presidential Webinar Series we recently brought to you is one of such initiatives. You can locate the first three webinar videos here:

Lastly, I would like to introduce to you some new changes/additions on the EERA leadership team: Dr. Kenda Grover, President-Elect and Conference Program Chair; Dr. Bonni Behrend, Director of Membership; Mahmoud Abdel-Rahman, Director of Student Services; Yifan Liao and Shawnette Williams, co-Directors of Conference Special Programs. With the other members on the leadership team, together, we remain committed to serve you and the broader educational communities for justice, equity, and growth.

With warm regards,

Grace J. Liang, PhD

EERA President
